Bridget McConnell
Psychotherapist
BA (Hons), (MBACP, Accred)
About me:

As an accredited member of the BACP with over 25 years of therapeutic experience, and 12 years as a qualified psychotherapist, I bring a wealth of experience. This includes counselling in primary care for the NHS and working as a youth counsellor in community and educational settings. I am DBS checked and fully insured.

My approach brings together Gestalt, transpersonal and attachment-based theories, with elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) when helpful.

I am dedicated to offering high levels of clinical excellence when supporting adults and young people in-person, online and outdoors in nature.

I am a counselling lecturer and have taught from introductory certificate right through to degree for 9 years to date. I also provide training and continuous professional development to those who wish to expand their skills in this field.

How I work:
Creative arts and embodied therapies offer alternative ways to explore distressing life events. Using imagination, spontaneity and a multi-sensory approach can help access healing on deeper levels for adults and young people alike. These transformative processes can help unravel the physical symptoms of trauma that often lie beyond the scope of words alone, and also offer ways to gently regulate the nervous system. As adults we have often lost touch with our creativity or been given the impression we are somehow 'not good at art' - therapeutic art is about the process of expressing our inner world rather than visually appealing end results.
I offer interventions such as offer, picture cards, drawing, sand tray, metaphor and parts work (including internal family systems) within my approach. I also adopt an embodied approach including focusing and EFT tapping to help clear post traumatic aftermaths from the body.
My BA (Hons) dissertation studied creative interventions and the role of the therapist.
