Bridget McConnell
BA (Hons), (MBACP, Accred)
Counsellor and Psychotherapist
About me:
I am a warm, professional, and engaging therapist working with adults and young people (YP) both in-person and online.
I am an accredited member of the BACP, hold insurance and up to date DBS. My experience includes counselling for the NHS in primary care, as a youth counsellor for various youth agencies and as a school counsellor. In addition, I am a counselling lecturer, hold a supervision qualification and offer training and CPD.
I have a first class honours degree in counselling and psychotherapy from Greenwich University, and over 25 years' experience in various holistic health and therapeutic fields.
I work integratively from a humanistic, attachment informed and transpersonal perspective. My theoretical approach includes Gestalt, Psychosynthesis, Attachment Theory and small amount of CBT.
How I work:
Previous to my counselling career I practiced holistic therapies and have an interest in how mental health and the way we inhabit our bodies are connected. Where appropriate I use focusing (felt sense) and energy psychotherapy (EFT tapping). These approaches offer and gentle yet powerful techniques for working with trauma and deeply held distress within our physiologies, helping to raise self-awareness and the capacity to regulate our nervous systems.
My BA (Hons) dissertation studied creative interventions and the role of the therapist. Creative interventions are not about the end result or being 'good at art', but are a process that can open up new perspectives, spark imagination, gently lessen inhibitions and invite spontaneous ways of working within therapy.
Areas of Work:
As a humanistic practitioner, I work with an individual's unique experience. However, I have good working knowledge of many issues such as:
-
